Sensex surges 195 points; Bajaj Auto, Maruti top gainers

Indian benchmarks continued to trade higher during the noon trading session after Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept its policy rate steady on Wednesday, as widely expected, after inflation accelerated to a seven-month high and stronger economic growth reduced the need for monetary stimulus.

At 13:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 32792.68 up by 195.5 points or by 0.6 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 10116.45 up by 72.35 points or by 0.72 per cent.

In the bullish trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 32856.09 and intraday low of 32598.12 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10128.35 and intraday low of 10061.9.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 8833.05,+2.70%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 683.75,+2.35%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 3178.40,+2.25%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1215.50,+2.14%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 178.70,+1.97%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 590.10,-0.91%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 507.95,-0.70%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 263.30,-0.64%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2617.85,-0.52%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 924.75,-0.30%), among others.

Among the sectors, CDS index was at 21427.18 up by 367.22 points or by 1.74%. Rajesh Exports Ltd. (Rs. 805.50,+5.24%), Bajaj Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 492.75,+4.12%), Blue Star Ltd. (Rs. 782.50,+3.05%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 789.00,+1.81%), Symphony Ltd. (Rs. 1595.00,+1.57%),.

On the flip side, HCS index was at 13801.77 down by 30.13 points or by 0.22%. Opto Circuits India Ltd. (Rs. 9.32,-4.99%), Claris Lifesciences Ltd. (Rs. 351.70,-2.85%), Orchid Pharma Ltd. (Rs. 17.75,-2.47%), Mangalam Drugs and Organics Ltd. (Rs. 185.80,-2.36%), Dr. Lal Pathlabs Ltd. (Rs. 878.50,-1.28%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2825 , shares advanced were 1828 while 856 shares declined and 141 were unchanged.
