Mid-Session: Sensex, Nifty edge higher in volatile trade; realty, IT stocks support

Paring early losses, the Indian benchmark indices were trading in positive terrain on Thursday, undermining soft cues from Asian peers, as investors took some breather after strong rally in the previous session. Outperforming the benchmark indices, the broader markets were trading higher, with MidCap and SmlCap indices gaining as much as 0.52 per cent and 0.88 per cent, respectively. On the sectoral front, realty and IT stocks emerged as top gainers on BSE, rising as much as 1.92 per cent and 0.67 per cent, respectively. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2901, shares advanced were 1729, while 1038 shares declined, and 134 were unchanged.

At 12:14 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 34461.38, up by 28.31 points or by 0.08 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 10637.55, up by 5.35 points or by 0.05 per cent.

During the day’s trade, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 34484.85 and intraday low of 34400.61, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10641.25 and intraday low of 10612.35.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1015.75,+1.40%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1065.00,+1.27%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 512.60,+1.23%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 590.70,+0.86%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 436.20,+0.86%), among others.

On the flip side, Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 555.70,-1.22%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 304.70,-1.10%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 308.95,-0.98%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1315.30,-0.65%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 324.10,-0.60%), were among top losers on BSE.
