Post Session: Realty and IT stocks propel markets higher; Sensex ends above 34,500

The Indian equities closed higher, paring early losses, tracking muted cues from Asian peers, as investors remained wary ahead of beginning of the corporate earnings result tomorrow. The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 3246, shares advanced were 1698 while 1389 shares declined and 159 were unchanged. In line with the benchmark indices, the broader markets ended higher, with MidCap and SmlCap indices, gaining as much as 0.27 per cent and 0.41 per cent. On the sectoral front, realty and IT stocks emerged as top gainers on BSE, rising as much as 2.00 per cent and 0.84 per cent, respectively.

The 30-share benchmark index closed trade at 34503.49, up by 70.42 points or by 0.2 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 10651.2, up by 19 points or by 0.18 per cent.

During the day’s trade, the Sensex touched intraday high of 34558.88 and intraday low of 34400.61, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10664.6 and intraday low of 10612.35.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1076.80,+2.40%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1021.00,+1.92%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 515.80,+1.87%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1742.50,+0.99%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1189.00,+0.99%), among others.

On the flip side, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1698.00,-2.12%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 321.50,-1.40%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 309.25,-0.88%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2784.25,-0.81%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 558.00,-0.81%), were among top losers on BSE.
