Pre-Session: Soft opening seen for Sensex, Nifty; Glenmark Pharma, GAIL (India) shares in focus

Indian equities may open higher on soft note on Friday, tracking bearish trends in SGX Nifty Index Futures and muted cues from global peers. Overseas, the Asian stocks were trading mostly lower, following a muting closing at Wall Street in overnight trade, after the Federal Reserve decided to hold short-term interest rates steady at 2-2.25 per cent on Thursday. Back home, bearish trends in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for November delivery, which were trading at 10,582.50, down by 33.50 points or 0.32 per cent, at 11:10 AM, Singapore Time, also indicated a negative start for local bourses. The markets are also likely to witness thin trade in a holiday-shortened week ahead. On the corporate front, shares of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals will remain in focus after the drug maker said that it would launch Phase 1 trial in solid tumors for its bispecific antibody GBR 1342. Among others, GAIL (India) shares will also see some movement after state-owned company said it has purchased steel pipes worth Rs 1,100 crore for laying the Barauni-Guwahati gas pipeline. On the earnings front, big names Amara Raja Batteries, EID Parry, Hindustan Aeronautics, HMT, India Cements, Indian Bank, Sobha and Titan will release their earnings numbers.

The Indian benchmark indices started the Samvat 2075 on a strong note, with the Nifty closing near 10,600, and the Sensex gaining 245 points, highest gains in 10 years. The BSE SENSEX closed at 35237.68, up by 245.77 points or by 0.7 per cent, and the NSE Nifty settled at 10598.4, up by 68.4 points or by 0.65 per cent.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were YES Bank Ltd. 3962712.00, Tata Motors Ltd. 3932893.00, State Bank of India 3312160.00, Vedanta Ltd. 2448864.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 2074764.00.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 31.03 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 3961.46 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 63573 with a total turnover of Rs. 4388.14 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 96292 with a total turnover of Rs. 5343.24 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 1210249 with a total turnover of Rs. 71578.19 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 50496 with a total turnover of Rs. 2877.14 Crore.

As on November 06, 2018, the FIIs stood as net buyer in both equity and debt markets. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 4511.43 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 532.33 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 4429.48 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 193.22 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 81.95 Crore and Rs. 339.11.
