Mid-Session: Sensex, Nifty under pressure; Auto index slips 1.6%

Indian benchmarks continued to hover in red during the noon trading session taking cues from their Asian peers which fell due to losses on Wall Street as sharp declines in long-term US Treasury yields and resurgent trade concerns stoked investor worries about global economic growth.

Shares of rate sensitive automobile stocks were in focus on Wednesday ahead of the outcome of Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) bi-monthly monetary policy, with the Nifty Auto index falling as much as 1.64 per cent to 9061 levels so far in intra-day trade, weighed by shares of Bharat Forge, Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland.

At 12:28 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 35956.32 down by 177.99 points or by 0.49 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 10797.3 down by 72.2 points or by 0.66 per cent. In the choppy trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 36048.65 and intraday low of 35863.59 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10821.05 and intraday low of 10781.4.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1824.65,+0.91%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 177.45,+0.51%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1949.05,+0.51%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 335.95,+0.43%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2096.60,+0.38%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 93.30,-3.01%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 170.90,-2.73%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 523.65,-2.72%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 201.20,-2.40%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 246.60,-2.22%), among others.

Among the sectors, IT index was at 14612.55 up by -16.77 points or by -0.11%. Trigyn Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 92.05,+11.24%), Zen Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 63.65,+3.92%), Hinduja Global Solutions Ltd. (Rs. 670.00,+2.75%), Intense Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 39.50,+2.07%), eClerx Services Ltd. (Rs. 1091.00,+1.98%),.

On the flip side, Metal index was at 11781.38 down by -337.47 points or by -2.78%. Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 148.00,-5.52%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 53.55,-3.69%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 224.95,-3.58%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 92.50,-3.09%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 66.10,-2.87%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2507 , shares advanced were 755 while 1609 shares declined and 143 were unchanged.
