Indices edge lower; Sensex down over 200

Indian benchmarks continued to extend losses during the late noon trading session tracking the weakness in the Asian markets. Selling was witnessed in stocks including Sun Pharma, Vedanta, Tata Steel, Tata Motors and M&M among others. The rupee is trading in a range of 70.46-70.74 so far in intra-day trade. It had opened 15 paise lower at 70.64 against the US dollar.

Among individual shares, Tasty Dairy Specialities shares gained 3 percent on Wednesday after the company signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Foundation Dutch Greenhouse Delta, the Netherlands-based organisation. On the other side, Novartis India Vice Chairman & MD, Milan Paleja to step down effective May 31, 2019.

At 14:21 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 35914.3 down by 220.01 points or by -0.61 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 10786 down by 83.5 points or by 0.77 per cent. Sensex touched intraday high of 36048.65 and intraday low of 35863.59 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10821.05 and intraday low of 10778.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1830.00,+1.20%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1957.85,+0.96%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1155.90,+0.38%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 375.00,+0.31%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2094.20,+0.26%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 421.10,-4.90%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 199.20,-3.37%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 93.10,-3.22%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 170.30,-3.07%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 522.20,-2.99%), among others.

Among the sectors, Realty index was at 1823.06 up by -3.64 points or by -0.2%. DLF Ltd. (Rs. 176.90,+1.84%), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 79.85,+0.82%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 698.75,+0.60%), Whereas, Metal index was at 11731.97 down by -386.88 points or by -3.19%. Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 148.00,-5.52%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 222.70,-4.54%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 53.40,-3.96%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 65.70,-3.45%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 199.15,-3.40%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2746 , shares advanced were 814 while 1765 shares declined and 167 were unchanged.
